Accept the fact that you have sinned.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God… (Romans 3:23)
Recognize that you have fallen short of God’s perfect standard by your sinful attributes, attitudes, and actions.
Realize what you owe because of your sin.
“Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death (James 1:15)”
Your sin has caused you to owe a great debt which can only be paid at a high price: death in a literal, burning hell.
Believe Jesus died for you and rose again.
But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God… (Hebrews 10:12)
The only way to escape the debt of your sin is to make peace with God. This is not possible by your efforts, but Jesus came and did all that was necessary to erase your sin debt and bring peace with God!
Repent (change your mind) toward God and your sin.
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out… (Acts 3:19)
You cannot continue to look at God as Someone you can ignore, nor can you look at your sin as "no big deal." Consider your sin from God's viewpoint. Your sin is terrible enough that God sent His only begotten Son to die for you! That’s how much He loves you!
Trust Christ alone as your Saviour.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved (Romans 10:9).
Everlasting life is a gift purchased by the blood of Jesus and offered freely to you, if you will call on Him by faith.
Call on the Lord Jesus in prayer! Tell Him that you know you are a sinner and that you deserve to pay your own sin debt. Acknowledge that Jesus died for you to pay the debt you owe, and that you trust the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour.
